Terms of Service
Effective date: May 1, 2026
Welcome to StudentPayoff. These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of our website and its tools. By accessing or using the site, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.
1. The service
StudentPayoff provides free, browser-based calculators and educational content related to paying off, refinancing, and restructuring student loans. The calculators run entirely in your browser and are designed to give you quick estimates, not exact quotes from any specific lender or the federal government.
2. No financial, legal, or tax advice
The information, calculators, and content on this site are for general educational purposes only. They do not constitute financial, legal, accounting, tax, or other professional advice. Federal student loan rules, eligibility for income-driven repayment plans, forgiveness programs, and tax treatment of forgiven debt all change frequently and depend on your specific circumstances.
Before making any borrowing, refinancing, or repayment-plan decision, consult studentaid.gov, your loan servicer, and where appropriate a licensed financial advisor or tax professional who can review your specific circumstances.
3. Accuracy and estimates
We strive to make our calculators accurate using standard amortization mathematics and the published federal IDR formulas, but the results depend on the values you enter. Real-world loan terms — interest rate, plan eligibility, forgiveness windows, fees, and tax treatment — are determined by your lender, the U.S. Department of Education, your state, and your jurisdiction, and may differ from our estimates. The SAVE plan in particular has been subject to legal challenges and may not be in effect in its published form when you read this.
4. Permitted use
You agree to use the site lawfully and not to:
- Attempt to disrupt, interfere with, or compromise the site’s security
- Scrape, copy, or republish substantial portions of our content without permission
- Use the site for any unlawful, fraudulent, or harmful purpose
- Reverse-engineer or attempt to extract source code beyond what is publicly served by your browser
5. Intellectual property
All site content, branding, logos, calculator designs, and written articles are the property of StudentPayoff or its licensors and are protected by applicable intellectual-property laws. You may share article URLs and quote brief excerpts with attribution; broader reuse requires written permission.
6. Third-party links and partners
The site contains advertisements served by third parties and affiliate links to student-loan refi lenders, marketplaces, and other financial services. We do not control those third parties’ products, websites, or practices, and our inclusion of a link is not an endorsement. If you choose to engage with a third-party offer, you do so under that party’s terms and at your own risk.
7. Disclaimer of warranties
The site is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement.
8. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, StudentPayoff and its operators will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits, revenue, data, or financial outcomes, arising out of or in connection with your use of the site, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages. Our total liability for any claim related to the site will not exceed one hundred U.S. dollars (USD $100).
9. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless StudentPayoff and its operators from any claim, demand, or damages, including reasonable attorneys’ fees, arising out of your misuse of the site or violation of these Terms.
10. Changes to the service or these Terms
We may modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the site at any time without notice. We may also update these Terms periodically; the “Effective date” at the top will reflect the most recent revision. Continued use of the site after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
11. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which the operator of the site is established, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
